![]() ![]() Just be prepared because some of the stuff going on is like a car accident you can't look away from.Īnd the ending. This one pretty much centers on high school drama with a dash of romantic drama and a sprinkle of violent drama. The story isn't as crazy as the previous book, but that doesn't mean there's not a lot of shit going on. ![]() The book is a delicious dessert on the outside with a whole lotta OMG on the inside. Logan's still the hot, caring jokester and Mason is still the sexy, caring badass.Īs for the romance between Mason and Sam, I'll explain it in strictly gif form how hot, sexy, and sweet it is.Īnd the drama. I think it's safe to say you'll definitely love her when IDGAF Sam comes out. She can get a tiny bit annoying sometimes in the book, but she's mostly bearable if not likable in some parts. If I could accurately describe it, I'd say she's roughly 40% IDGAF Sam from Book 1, 50% emotional Sam from Book 2, and 10% New Sam with a big moral compass. I'm happy she has both (heck, I'd prefer it if she has both), but still a tiny bit unsatisfied with how she is. Sam has some of her spunk back though her emotional side is still there. ![]() I'm a lot happier with how Fallen Crest Public turned out compared to the last book. You know you shouldn't have it because it's bad for you, but this ends up happening anyways. The Fallen Crest High Series is like junk food. ![]()

![]() ![]() In its brief life as an independent country (1836-1846), the Republic of Texas enshrined “the right to enslave,” and Texas entered the United States as an unequivocal “slave state.” ![]() ![]() Austin, for instance, “told everyone who would listen that, without slavery, the Anglo colonies would never fully succeed and Americans who came to Texas would surely be poor for the rest of their lives.” Her chapter entitled “Remember the Alamo” is a particularly poignant reminder that the men who fought for Texas independence-“Who could not want Texas to be independent?”-were doing so for less than noble reasons. One of Gordon-Reed’s central projects is upending the myth of “heroic” white Texas males like Jim Bowie, Sam Houston, Davy Crockett and Stephen F. Mostly, it’s just one long testament to how badly the former group has treated the latter. “History,” Gordon-Reed writes in the opening chapter, “is, to say the least, complicated,” but in this short book, which is as much memoir as it is historical analysis, the record of interactions between white and Black Texans doesn’t, in fact, seem especially complicated. While Annette Gordon-Reed’s On Juneteenth is, in part, about the new national holiday inspired by the events of June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas, when Major General Gordon Granger announced the end of legalized slavery in that state-more than two months after the official end of the Civil War-the true subject of the book is the treatment of African-descended people by white Texans, and it is not a happy chronicle. ![]() ![]() Razing the cultural paradigm that the ideal love is infused with sex and desire, she provides a new path to love that is sacred, redemptive, and healing for individuals and for a nation. ![]() People are divided, she declares, by society’s failure to provide a model for learning to love.Īs bell hooks uses her incisive mind to explore the question “What is love?” her answers strike at both the mind and heart. The actual tale incorporates some typical historical romance tropes, but I didn't mind that all that much! It was still so fun to watch everything play out, and I was certainly entertained from start to finish. Merritt's independent nature, stubbornness and charm Keir's hardworking, kind and outdoorsy nature both of them were just so appealing, and it's unsurprising that I was invested in their romance immediately. Devil in Disguise (The Ravenels 7) by Lisa Kleypas is the much anticipated story of Lady Merritt Sterling, lately a widow and business owner. They have such similar personalities: strong-willed individuals who care deeply for those they love and will do what they believe is best to protect them. When Keir takes Merritt to bed it’s unexpected and absolutely fabulous. ![]() And her heroes are everything you want and then some. ![]() ![]() As always, her heroines are strong, independent, interesting, and likeable. ![]() In this particular case, the main couple played a large part in winning my favor, as I adored both Merritt and Keir. THE STORY: Lady Merritt Sterling, a widow, is running her husbands business when she meets Kier MacRae, a Scottish distiller. Devil in Disguise is packed with fabulous adventure, searing heat, crackling dialogue, and fantastic humour that is the staple of a Kleypas book. I really enjoyed Devil in Disguise! I don't read a ton of historical romances these days, but I can always count on Lisa Kleypas to write charming, lovely love stories that are all too easy for me to devour. ![]() |
